Need Help Going Green?

What exactly do we mean when we ask – “Need help going green?”

The Lingo:

Carbon Footprint – The amount of carbon dioxide produced by a person, organization or state in a given time.
ASHRAE – American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers – an international organization of 51,000 persons. ASHRAE fulfills its mission of advancing heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration to serve humanity and promote a sustainable world through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education.
EPAct – The Energy Policy Act of 2005 includes tax incentives to encourage the use of energy efficient products.
IESNA – The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America seeks to improve the lighted environment by bringing together those with lighting knowledge and by translating that knowledge into actions that benefit the public.

The Market:
There are 300,00+ commercial customers in the Com-Ed (Northern Illinois) market. Roughly 70% of these commercial buildings are under 30,000 square feet, with 29% under 50,000 square feet and the remaining 1% over 50,000 square feet. It is estimated within this market, only 15-20% of these facilities have upgraded to energy efficient lighting.

Key Goverment Mandates Effecting the Lighting Industry
2008 – all Mercury Vapor Ballasts banned
2009 – Ohio, Missouri, Illinois and Michigan incentive programs increase; regional incentive programs increase
2010 – Ban of almost all replacement Magnetic Fluorescent Ballasts for non-residential T12
2012 – Ban of 40-100 Watt Incandescent
